Until recently, my prototyping experience was limited to traditional workshop tools (wood/metal) and digital manufacturing (CNC/laser cutting/3D printing). The more robust methods used for actual manufacturing were just beyond my reach and I knew that learning more about these processes would better inform how I approach 3D modeling, which types of design challenges I want to take on, and most importantly, get me to a place where I can ask better questions.
For step one, I found online resources to help learn how to handle the 3D modeling aspects for injection molding. Better information about draft angles, shelling, and creating products out of multiple components made this worthwhile.
Next step: find a way to learn about the actual process of injection molding. Thankfully, there's Techshop.
